CREATED BY A PHOTOGRAPHER
Black and Light Studio was born in 2020 out of a very real need I had as a working photographer: I wanted a clean, elevated, light-filled space that felt inspiring, versatile, and actually fully furnished and functional for creatives.
Hiya, I’m Atali Samuel — an award-winning and published photographer in the Dallas market — and I created this studio the way I build my own sets: intentionally, practically, and with a deep respect for glowing light.
What started as “I wish this existed” turned into a 2,100+ square foot creative playground designed to support photographers, content creators, and entrepreneurs at every stage.
I personally designed, built (with some professional help), sourced, painted, installed, and curated nearly every detail inside these walls. From the rolling walls and custom installations to the furniture, art, textures, and props — I hunted, refinished, assembled, and styled it all with real shoots in mind. If something is in here, it’s because I’ve needed it on set.
The layout flows the way it does because I understand production days, outfit changes, client nerves, natural light shifts, and the chaos that can happen behind the scenes. This isn’t a warehouse with white walls — it’s a working creative environment built by someone who lives in it.
Black and Light Studio is proudly woman-owned and independently operated. It’s not backed by investors or a franchise model — it’s built on sweat equity, late nights, paint on my hands, and a genuine love for the Dallas creative community.
My goal has always been simple: create a space that feels elevated but welcoming, polished but usable, and inspiring without being intimidating.
And if you choose to create here, I hope you’ll love this space the way I do. My intention has always been for Black and Light Studio to feel like your shooting home — a place you can walk into with confidence, spread out your gear, dazzle your clients, and bring your vision to life without stress. I ask that you treat it with the same care and respect you’d give your own studio — because every detail was built with purpose, and every creative who walks through these doors deserves the experience I envisioned from day one.
When we all protect the space, we ensure that Dallas content creators can step into something inspiring, beautiful, and consistent — every single time!
Outside of operating the studio and my own branding/event photography business, I’m a slightly unhinged but deeply devoted dog mom to two rescue furbabies who absolutely run my life. I’m also a gym rat, a proud plant parent to an ever-expanding indoor jungle, and someone who will reorganize a room at 7 am because “it's time for a refresh.” I prefer peace over everything and somehow keep life equal parts disciplined and delightfully chaotic.
Happy Snapping,
Atali Samuel

ps. and while I’m the one building sets and wiping fingerprints off mirrors, there’s another creative genius behind the scenes — the one holding the keyboard.
